Description
This polished scenic moss agate slice shows cream, tan, brown and yellow banding through the centre, with dark mossy or dendritic-looking inclusions and a translucent-to-milky upper section. The piece has a triangular–trapezoidal outline with a slightly curved top edge and a smooth, polished face. Measuring 2.9 × 2.8 × 0.4 cm and weighing 5 g, the slice is a small, compact freeform cut from Scenic Moss Agate material and originates from Indonesia. The polish brings out the internal banding and the fine branching inclusions that give the specimen its ‘scenic’ character. Agate is a banded form of chalcedony, a microcrystalline variety of quartz (SiO2); scenic or moss agates commonly show internal, moss-like dendritic patterns within translucent to milky chalcedony. This is a straightforward example that emphasises colour banding and delicate internal inclusions.
