Description
This specimen is a slab of Blue lace agate from Namibia, showing layered blue-and-white banding with an elongated central area of silky-to-waxy blue and lighter white margins. A pale beige to grey rind is visible around the irregular edges; the piece stands upright in the photograph. The slab is opaque to slightly translucent and measures 7 × 4 × 5 cm, with a mass of 186 g. Its shape is irregular rather than cut into a rectangle, and the surface preserves the banded texture typical of agate slabs. Agate is a banded form of chalcedony, a microcrystalline variety of quartz (SiO2). Banding like the blue-and-white layers here is a common growth pattern in agate and is useful for identifying its characteristic layered structure.
