Description
This is a rough piece of blue lace agate showing pale blue to blue‑grey chalcedony with a translucent central area and irregular milky white rim sections. The surface is unpolished and retains natural texture, with host rock attached around parts of the perimeter. The specimen measures 5.5 × 4.5 × 5 cm and weighs 153 g. Colour zoning is visible from the pale central band into the lighter rim areas; the piece is presented as a raw, natural fragment rather than a finished or cut slice. Agate is a banded form of chalcedony — a microcrystalline variety of quartz — that commonly forms in cavities and fractures. The subdued blue tones here are typical of material traded as blue lace agate from southern African sources.
