Description
This specimen is calcite showing densely drusy orange–reddish crystal surfaces over a broadly based piece with a taller upright section. A pale matrix is attached to the lower left, and several crystal faces show partial translucency visible on the drusy surfaces. The piece measures H 15 × W 12.5 × D 6 cm and weighs 461 g. The drusy coverage is compact across the main exposed surfaces, producing a textured, granular appearance rather than isolated large points. Calcite is calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and commonly forms as drusy crusts and a wide variety of crystal habits in many geological settings. Wenshan, China is given as the locality for this example.
