Description
This is a 346 g red Dragonscale Calcite showing pronounced, scale-like growth and rich red tones across the surface. It measures H 9 cm × W 10 cm × D 7 cm and displays the layered, plate-like appearance that gives the specimen its trade name. The piece retains its external form to the scale-like structures. Colour and the distinctive ‘dragon scale’ texture are the most visual features of this example.
Mineral context
Calcite is calcium carbonate (CaCO3). It forms in many sedimentary, metamorphic and hydrothermal settings and occurs in a wide range of crystal habits and aggregate forms.
