Description
This specimen is calcite presenting as creamy to pale-yellow radiating sprays that form a starburst-like habit across a rough tan matrix. The sprays are discrete and branching, giving a textured, sculptural surface that’s visible from multiple angles. Measuring 14 × 10 × 6 cm and weighing 600 g, the piece sits on a clear stand that shows the matrix relationship and overall form. The matrix is tan and rough, contrasting with the lighter calcite sprays and emphasising the radial habit. Calcite is calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and commonly occurs in a wide range of crystal habits and aggregate forms; radiating sprays are a frequent and attractive habit for this mineral in many localities, including Wenshan, China.
