Description
This small Amethyst druse shows a dense coating of purple drusy crystals over a pale, light-coloured backing. The piece has a wedge-like, tapering outline and a small circular opening or void near the top edge, giving it a compact, sculptural silhouette. Measuring 8 × 3.5 × 4 cm and weighing 153 g, the specimen preserves closely packed, fine crystal points across its face. The backing is noticeably lighter in tone than the crystal layer and the overall form is a tapered wedge rather than a full spherical geode. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz (SiO2); quartz commonly forms crystal coatings and druses in cavities and veins. This example is from Brazil and presents the sort of drusy crystal habit often seen in amethyst specimens.
