Description
This tall, slab-like Amethyst shows one broad face densely covered in dark purple to nearly black crystal druse, while the opposite face is flat and appears sawn or cut. Outer margins and the sides are rough and lighter in colour, giving a clear contrast between the druse face and the prepared opposite face. The specimen measures 12 × 5 × 5 cm and weighs 325 g. The druse is closely packed across the main face and catches the light; the flat reverse and sawn edge reflect the slab preparation. Sides and margins retain a natural, rough texture and lighter tones. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz (SiO2); quartz commonly forms crystals in cavities, veins and geodes, so slab-like pieces with a druse face are a familiar form for this material. This example preserves the visual contrast between a cut reverse and a richly crystallised front face.
