Description
This polished heart is composed of pink amethyst and flower agate, showing soft pink, white, grey and pale beige colour zoning with thin orange-brown and reddish banding across a translucent to semi-translucent body. The surface is glossy and the edges are smoothly rounded, giving a neat, tactile finish. Measuring 6.5 × 7.5 × 1 cm and weighing 113 g, the piece is a flat, heart-shaped slice with even polish on both faces and clear zone contrasts that are visible across the thickness. Colour bands and subtle tonal shifts run across the specimen rather than forming isolated patches. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz (SiO2), and flower agate is a form of chalcedony with botryoidal and plume-like banding commonly seen in material from Madagascar. This example combines the two materials in a polished decorative form that highlights the specimen’s colour zoning and banded textures.
