Description
This polished oval cabochon combines pink amethyst and flower agate in soft, clouded tones of pink, lavender, cream and pale beige. The domed face is smooth but shows multiple small open vugs and pits, and a band of iron staining is visible near one edge. Measuring 5.7 × 4 × 1 cm and weighing 51 g, the piece displays areas of slight translucency where the colours thin into paler bands and mottling. The surface is polished and gently domed, revealing botryoidal-like patching in the agate portions alongside the pink amethyst colouring. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz (SiO2), while flower agate is a chalcedony-rich form of agate that commonly shows rounded, floral-like patterns and soft colour banding. Madagascar is a frequent source for both pink amethyst and agate varieties.
