Pink amethyst & flower agate cabochon, Madagascar — 65 g

Description

This is a polished oval cabochon of pink amethyst and flower agate from Madagascar, showing a rounded, smooth surface and a mottled palette of pink, cream, grey and honey-brown. Semi-translucent zones and cloudy internal patterning are visible throughout the stone. The piece measures 5.4 × 3.7 × 1.0 cm and weighs 65 g. The surface is fully polished and the overall form is cabochon-like with gently domed top and rounded edges; is noted on the surface. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz (SiO2), and in Madagascar such material is commonly seen alongside agate and other silica varieties; this specimen combines the pink-hued amethyst tones with the characteristically patterned, orbicular appearance of flower agate as a single polished piece.
