Description

This polished slab of Lapis Lazuli shows a vivid royal-blue body crossed by a broad grey-white band and scattered small brassy metallic flecks across the surface. The piece has a roughly trapezoidal/rectangular outline with a slightly beveled or rounded top edge. The slab measures 5 × 3.5 × 3 cm and weighs 72 g. The flat polish accentuates the colour contrast between the deep blue and the lighter banding, and the metallic flecks are visible across the face. Origin: Sar-e-sang, Afghanistan. Lapis lazuli is a rock dominated by the blue mineral lazurite and commonly contains calcite (which can produce grey-white banding) and pyrite (which can appear as brassy flecks); these general associations help explain the visual character of this specimen without assigning specific mineral identifications beyond the material name.
