Description
This is a polished block of Lapis Lazuli showing a deep, even blue with lighter grey–white mottling across its faces. The specimen has sharp, angular edges and glossy, reflective faces consistent with a cut and polished form. Measuring 3.5 × 3.3 × 3.0 cm and weighing 91 g, the block is compact and broadly cuboid in outline. The finish is smooth and reflective; the lighter mottling contrasts with the dominant deep blue and is visible on multiple sides. Origin: Sar-e-sang, Afghanistan. Lapis lazuli is a rock dominated by the blue mineral lazurite and commonly contains light-coloured calcite and other accessory minerals; Sar-e-sang is a well-known Afghan source for lapis lazuli in trade contexts.
