Description
This is a polished lapis lazuli rectangular block showing a deep blue body with lighter blue mottling across the faces. Surfaces are smooth with rounded edges and scattered metallic-looking flecks visible on the surface; the piece is opaque when held. The block measures 3.9 × 3.5 × 1.5 cm and weighs 54 g. The finish is a smooth polish on all faces and edges; is noted in the supplied images. The compact size and flat rectangular form make the specimen easy to handle. Lapis lazuli is a rock dominated by the blue mineral lazurite and commonly contains accessory sulphides and calcite in general terms. Sar-e-sang, Afghanistan, is the recorded locality for this piece.
