Description
This is a polished cabochon‑style slice of fossilised palm root from Indonesia, shaped as an elongated shield/teardrop with a pointed top and rounded base. The face is glossy and shows a dark mottled matrix interrupted by pale bluish‑grey to cream patterned areas with fine irregular branching and rounded patterning across the surface. The piece measures 3.9 × 2.4 × 0.4 cm and weighs 7 g. The polish brings out the subtle contrasts between the darker matrix and the lighter patterned zones, and the slice’s thin profile makes the internal patterning readily visible across the face. Fossilised palm root is an organic‑derived material preserved as a compact, often hardwood‑like fossil; polished slices such as this are commonly used as cabochons and study pieces where the preserved internal structure and patterning are of interest.
