Description
This is a dense, radiating cluster of pale yellow to cream Wenshan calcite composed of elongated, bladed (spear-like) crystals. The crystals are translucent and have a matte to slightly frosted surface, with several larger central blades surrounded by many smaller ones. The piece is presented on a small stand. The specimen measures H 6 × W 7.5 × D 6 cm and weighs 159 g. Mixed crystal sizes give the aggregate a layered, radiating appearance; surfaces are generally frosted rather than and there is no claim of additional minerals or treatments. Calcite is calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and commonly forms in a wide range of crystal habits and aggregate forms. Wenshan material is known for producing bladed and scalenohedral calcite habits, making this a good example of an elongated bladed cluster type.
