Description
This Wenshan calcite presents a compact cluster of elongated, bladed crystals with pointed terminations. The crystals range from pale cream to colourless and show glossy, vitreous faces sitting on a light tan matrix. The piece measures 6 × 7.5 × 9 cm and weighs 196 g. Crystal habit is distinctly bladed and the overall grouping is elongated; terminations are pointed. Surfaces catch the light on their glossy faces, and the matrix provides a warm contrast to the pale crystals. Calcite is calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and is known for forming in a wide variety of crystal habits; Wenshan material commonly shows bladed and scalenohedral forms. This text is general background and does not add specific claims about this individual specimen.
