Description
This honey‑orange calcite is a dense, rounded branching cluster of many small crystals. Individual crystals appear blocky to slightly tabular with translucent, sparkly faces that catch the light across the aggregate. The piece measures 9 × 8 × 3 cm and weighs 105 g, shown on a clear acrylic stand. The overall habit is a compact, branching cluster of tightly packed crystals with an amber to honey‑orange colour range. Calcite is calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and commonly forms a wide range of crystal habits and aggregate types in sedimentary, metamorphic and hydrothermal environments. Wenshan, China is a locality known for colourful calcite specimens.
