Description
This handheld, elongated tapering specimen combines a central band of pink to salmon-coloured rhodochrosite with darker outer host material and visible fluorite and pyrite. The central band ranges from opaque to slightly translucent, and the surface is uneven and granular with stepped-looking textures and pale cream to greenish mottling. Measuring 10 × 4.5 × 4 cm and weighing 237 g, the piece presents a compact, tapered form with the pink band running through the centre and darker matrix surrounding it. Fluorite and small pyrite areas are present on the surface; texture is granular rather than smooth and surfaces show irregularity rather than polish. Fluorite is a calcium fluoride (CaF2) that commonly forms crystals and may fluoresce under ultraviolet light, though UV behaviour varies between individual specimens. The combination of rhodochrosite with fluorite and pyrite gives a mixed-mineral appearance typical of multi‑mineral hand specimens from hydrothermal settings.
