Description
This compact cluster shows dark grey to nearly black fluorite crystals with translucent edges and multiple reflective, angular faces arranged in a stepped, blocky habit. A prominent pale yellow to cream granular or crusty calcite coating covers the top and one side, and small white specks are scattered on some crystal surfaces. Measurements are H 6 cm × W 4 cm × D 2.5 cm and the specimen weighs 100 g. The interplay of the dense, dark fluorite and the lighter granular calcite gives clear contrast across the cluster and highlights the blocky fluorite habit. Fluorite is calcium fluoride (CaF2) and commonly forms cubic or blocky crystals; calcite is calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and often appears as granular coatings or crusts on other minerals in hydrothermal and sedimentary settings.
