Fluorite cluster, Yaogangxian – 117 g

Description

This compact cluster of YGX fluorite presents translucent pale lavender-to-purple cubic crystals resting on a pale white–cream matrix. Several crystals show flat faces and sharp edges while some crystal faces carry a whitish drusy or crusty coating. The specimen is shown on a clear acrylic stand. Measured at H 8.8 × W 5.5 × D 3 cm and weighing 117 g, the cluster is composed of multiple cubic crystals with a range of pale purple tones and partial drusy crystal coating on select faces. Visible surfaces are intact where the flats and edges are present; the overall form is a compact cluster rather than isolated single crystals. Fluorite is calcium fluoride (CaF2) and commonly forms cubic crystals; many specimens from Yaogangxian are noted for their attractive purple shades. UV behaviour varies between fluorite specimens and is not indicated for this individual piece.
