Description
This handheld specimen is an intergrowth of calcite and fluorite with an irregular outline and rough, sparkly crystalline surfaces. Overall colours range from pale grey to lavender with translucent patches across the front and scattered pale yellow, blocky-to-tabular crystal-like areas. Measuring 5.5 × 4.5 × 2 cm and weighing 51 g, the piece shows a mix of crystalline textures rather than a single dominant crystal habit. The front face carries the most noticeable pale yellow blocky-to-tabular forms set against the paler grey–lavender background; surfaces are generally rough and crystalline with no visible large-scale damage. Fluorite is calcium fluoride (CaF2) and calcite is calcium carbonate (CaCO3); both commonly occur together in a variety of hydrothermal and sedimentary settings. This specimen comes from Mekhtar in the Loralai District of Balochistan, Pakistan, and clearly displays the colour variation and textural interplay typical of small calcite–fluorite intergrowths.
