Description
This Amethyst cluster shows numerous sharp, glassy crystal faces and an irregular, jagged surface with colour zoning from lighter lavender at the outer edges to a deeper purple toward a darker hollow centre. A narrow pale backing or matrix is visible along one side. The specimen measures 7 × 3 × 5 cm and weighs 167 g. Crystals are translucent to semi‑translucent in places and present as a compact cluster with a pronounced central cavity. is noted in the supplied description. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz (SiO2); quartz commonly forms crystals in cavities and geodes, which explains the hollow-centred cluster habit often seen in material from Brazil.
