Description
This Amethyst specimen shows a sparkly drusy surface of purple crystals surrounding a darker central recess. The piece has an irregular triangular to trapezoidal outline with a rough, natural outer edge and varying purple tones across the crystal-coated faces. The specimen measures 8 × 6 × 3 cm and weighs 241 g. The central area forms a small cavity or recessed zone set within the drusy coating; crystal faces catch the light across the coated surfaces. Colour ranges through lighter to deeper purples visible on the crystal-coated faces. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz (SiO2), and commonly forms as crystal coatings and drusy linings in cavities and vugs. This example presents the typical drusy texture of many amethyst specimens while retaining its natural outer edge.
