Description
This is a polished round slice of fossilised palm root showing a high‑contrast mottled pattern of black, grey, cream and pale green across the face, with a small yellowish patch near the upper‑right edge. The face has been polished to reveal the internal patterning while the piece remains thin and flat. The slice measures 4 × 4 × 0.4 cm and weighs 17 g. Its surface shows a dense network of elongated, irregular shapes separated by lighter, vein‑like material, producing a complex, map‑like texture across the polished face. Fossilised palm root is a silicified plant material: broadly, these slices are permineralised wood or root preserved in fine detail and commonly used in jewellery and lapidary work when cut and polished. This specimen offers a compact, well‑polished example that highlights the patterning of the fossilised root.
