Description
This is a polished rectangular slab of Lapis Lazuli with a bright royal-blue body, glossy polished faces and smoothly rounded edges and corners. White streaks and patches cross the surfaces alongside dark grey-to-black banded veining that runs across the faces, giving clear contrast within the blue ground. The slab measures 6 × 4 × 3.5 cm and weighs 116 g. The finish is a high polish across all faces and the specimen presents as a compact, hand-sized piece suitable for handling or close inspection. The stated origin is Sar-e-sang, Afghanistan. Lapis lazuli is a rock dominated by the blue mineral lazurite and commonly contains calcite (white) and darker accessory minerals, which helps explain the contrasting white and dark veining visible here. Sar-e-sang is a well-known source for this material.
