Description
This polished lapis lazuli freeform presents a deep vivid blue band across the middle, set against blue‑and‑white mottling and greyish patches. The front face is flat and smoothly polished, while the edges are gently rounded, and scattered brassy metallic‑looking flecks are visible across the surface. Measuring H 5 cm × W 3.7 cm × D 2 cm and weighing 72 g, the piece is a compact, hand‑polished slab‑style freeform. The polish emphasises the contrast between the intense blue banding and the paler, mottled areas, and the brassy specks add small reflective points across the face. Lapis lazuli is a rock dominated by the blue mineral lazurite and commonly contains lighter calcite and brassy pyrite‑like flecks; Sar-e‑sang in Afghanistan is a widely known source for lapis. This contextual background is provided to place the material in its broader mineralogical setting.
