Description
This is a cream to pale honey-coloured Wenshan calcite cluster perched on a dark brown rocky matrix. The upper portion has a broad, bushy habit and a dense, sparkly drusy surface composed of rounded-to-fan-like crystal aggregates. The specimen measures H 6.5 cm × W 13.5 cm × D 6 cm and weighs 318 g. It sits on a wedge-shaped base, the bushy growth forming a relatively wide, tapering crown above the matrix. Surface texture is notably drusy and finely aggregated rather than formed of large individual points. Calcite is calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and occurs in many habits; Wenshan material is commonly encountered as cream to honey tones and as drusy or botryoidal aggregates in collections.
