Description
This is a pale cream to white calcite cluster characterised by several upright, column-like projections rising from a broader base. The surface is drusy and rugged with an irregular, jagged outline and scattered tan to brown surface staining. The piece measures 11 × 11 × 6 cm and weighs 318 g. The cluster shows a range of columnar projection sizes across the base, with drusy crystal surfaces visible on most faces and occasional staining on exposed areas. Calcite is calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and commonly forms in a variety of crystal habits and aggregate forms; drusy and columnar habits are typical morphologies for calcite in many settings. Wenshan, China is an origin noted for producing a variety of calcite specimens.
