Description
This hand-sized amethyst drusy plate has a densely covered surface of many-faced, sparkly crystals in tones from deep purple to lighter lavender, with a darker central area and irregular edges. The piece is plate-like with uneven topography and a roughly rectangular outline. The specimen measures 6 × 4.5 × 4 cm and weighs 122 g. Crystals form a drusy layer across the top surface, producing a fine, glittering texture; edges are irregular rather than trimmed. Origin is Brazil. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz (SiO2) and commonly forms in cavities and geodes; this specimen is a druse example that illustrates the colour range typical of Brazilian amethyst.
