Description
This is a polished, deep royal-blue lapis lazuli cabochon-like specimen with a glossy, reflective surface and beveled edges leading to rounded corners. Scattered brassy pyrite flecks are visible across the face, contrasting with the rich blue. The piece measures 3.7 × 2.8 × 1.0 cm and weighs 41 g. Its outline is rectangular to slightly tapered, and the polish emphasises the stone’s colour and the distribution of the metallic inclusions. Lapis lazuli is a rock dominated by the blue mineral lazurite and commonly contains pyrite as brassy flecks; Sar-e-sang in Afghanistan is a well-known source for deep blue material.
