Description
This specimen pairs translucent to milky and pale yellow prismatic quartz with dense dark green to olive-green epidote crystal clusters. Small open cavities or vugs are visible across the quartz surface, and the crystal faces show a glassy, light-catching appearance. Measuring 9 × 7 × 2.5 cm and weighing 191 g, the piece presents epidote as clustered, granular crystals sitting directly on the quartz matrix; the quartz appears as prismatic crystals with varying translucency. The overall surfaces are sparkly to glassy where light reflects from the crystals. Quartz is silicon dioxide (SiO2) and commonly forms prismatic crystals; epidote is a sorosilicate that typically occurs as green to olive-green masses or crystals in hydrothermal and metamorphic settings. The locality is Hongquizhen Quarry, Sichuan Province.
