Description
This cut amethyst slice reveals a central cavity lined with clustered, glassy crystals ranging from pale lavender to darker purple concentrated toward the centre. The cavity surface is drusy and sparkly, and a grey outer rind of host rock is visible around the crystal pocket. Measuring 9.5 × 5 × 6 cm and weighing 433 g, the piece retains the cut geode-style form with an open crystal-lined interior and irregular crystal faces. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz (SiO2) and commonly forms as crystal linings in cavities and geodes; this specimen illustrates that habit with its drusy interior and outer rind typical of a sliced geode-style piece.
