Description

This Amethyst cluster shows a concentrated deep purple core that fades to a lighter purple rim, sitting on a grey matrix. The crystal faces catch the light across the specimen, and the piece is notably tall and narrow in habit. The cluster measures 14 × 6 × 6 cm and weighs 592 g. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz (SiO2). Quartz commonly forms crystals in cavities and clusters, and colour zoning from deep to paler purple is a frequent feature in amethyst specimens.
