Description
This specimen is blue lace agate with distinct pale blue-and-white banding and an open cavity lined with a pale, sparkly druzy interior. The piece has a blocky, upright form with an irregular natural outer surface and rough edges. Measuring 9 × 6 × 4 cm and weighing 279 g, the specimen presents translucent to semi‑translucent bands of blue and white surrounding a small druzy pocket. The cavity shows a fine, pale druzy lining that contrasts with the smoother banded chalcedony; the outer surface remains rough and natural. Agate is a banded form of chalcedony, a microcrystalline variety of quartz (SiO2), and commonly forms as banded fills and drusy cavities in host rock. This example is labelled as Blue Lace Agate and originates from Ysterputs, Namibia.
